Strongly engaged at the Synod on Synodality and deserves a break

Pope Francis writes apology letter for student

Vatican City - Not everyone can produce a certificate from the Pope himself. But a 19-year-old student from the USA can: After his hard work at the Synod on Synodality, he deserves a break, according to Francis.

Wyatt Olivas (19), a student at the US University of Wyoming in need of a rest, has received a certificate from Pope Francis on behalf of his professors. He said the young man had been vigorously engaged as the youngest participant in the Synod on Synodality meeting at the Vatican and deserved a break. "We therefore kindly ask that he be excused from his teaching duties for a short time," reads a letter from the Pope published by the Vatican News website (Thursday). The letter bears Francis' own handwritten signature.

The four-week meeting of bishops, religious and faithful on church reforms ends on Sunday. Olivas has a few hours left in the car after a 13-hour flight from Rome to Denver on Monday, according to Vatican sources. (KNA)
