He wanted to attract more attention - but his idea backfired: a Mexican pastor used a puppet to scare the worshippers during a church service. As the Spanish internet portal "Religion Digital" reported on Wednesday, the pastor of the parish of San Antonio in Saltillo used a replica of a doll from the well-known US series "The Twilight Zone" from the 1960s, which became known as the "possessed doll" Willie Puppet. This caused fear among children in particular, but adults were also outraged by the "devilish altar boy".

Shortly after the service, videos went viral on social media, describing the performance as "scandalous". The priest subsequently apologised to the faithful and explained that he had not known the origin and correct meaning of his puppet. The local bishop of the Saltillo diocese, Hilario González, assured the local media that the priest would no longer use the doll in church services. (mtr)
