The Vatican has announced an official document that is intended to clarify fundamental questions of canon law and theology on the subject of "specific ecclesiastical ministries". This also includes the question of the "necessary participation of women in the life and leadership of the Church". This was announced by the Synod Secretariat on Tuesday. The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith will draw up a special document on this "in dialogue with the Synod Secretariat".

The announcement is unusual in two respects. Until now, the Vatican has usually only spoken of the participation of women "in the life of the Church"; now there is also talk of their participation in the "leadership of the Church". And: never before have the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Synod announced a joint document. It has not been announced when the text will be drawn up and published. (KNA)
