Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz as Archbishop of Warsaw on Monday. This was announced by the Vatican. Nycz will turn 75 in February and thus reach the usual retirement age for diocesan leaders. According to his own statement, he submitted his resignation to the Pope at the end of 2023. The Polish cardinal has headed the capital's diocese since 2007.

Francis appointed Adrian Jozef Galbas as the new Archbishop of Warsaw. The 56-year-old has headed the archdiocese of Katowice since mid-2023. The Pallottine priest was previously the so-called coadjutor archbishop there. As a rule, this task is associated with a right of succession. (KNA)
