The Irish nun Clare Crockett could soon be beatified. As the Order of the Servants of the Home of the Mother announced on its website on Monday, the beatification process will officially begin on 12 January 2025 in the Cathedral of Alcala de Henares (Madrid region).

Clare Crockett died in April 2016 together with five young postulants of her order in a severe earthquake in Ecuador. As the then 33-year-old was trying to lead a group of students from her school in Playa Prieta to safety, a staircase collapsed.

The order reports that it has received thousands of messages from more than fifty countries over the past eight years following Sister Clare's death. Apparently, the deceased had not yet completed her "mission of evangelisation". They had repeatedly been asked to study the holiness of Sister Clare. Antonio Prieto Lucena, Bishop of the Diocese of Alcala de Henares, has accepted the order's request and will open the beatification process at diocesan level. As postulator, Sister Kristen Gardner is the person responsible for the beatification process for the Sisters of the Home of the Mother. (KNA)
