Bonn - Whether in a cinema film or in speculation about Pope Francis' health, the topic of conclaves is currently very popular. Soon the papal election will also be available as an intriguing parlour game.

The Spanish games publisher Salt and Pepper Games wants to bring out the papal election as an exciting board game. As the industry portal "Brettspiel-News" reported last week, a fundraising campaign is currently underway via the crowdfunding platform "Gamefound" to realise the game.

The publisher is initially planning an English and Spanish version of the game. Things are looking good at the moment: The fundraising target of 7,000 euros has already been far exceeded: the project was 338 per cent funded on the platform on Monday.

"In Habemus Papam, players take on the roles of cardinal factions, each representing different interests within the Catholic Church," is how the games portal describes the concept of the parlour game for three to six people. The aim of the game is to influence the election of the next pope. To do this, the suitable candidate must be supported. Secret roles and intrigues make the game exciting. Depending on whether a round ends with white smoke - i.e. the election of a new pope - or not, the game moves on to the next of up to five rounds. After 45 to 60 minutes of play, the winner is the player who is most skilful at forging alliances, eliminating rivals and seeing through the intentions of their fellow players. (KNA)
