US President Donald Trump is instrumentalising Easter for his political messages. Together with other Christians, he and his wife Melania would "celebrate in prayer the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour", Trump explained in a proclamation for the holiday. In his "Truth Social" network, he wrote on Monday (local time) that with God's help "we will make our nation stronger, safer, greater and more prosperous" than ever before.

The television station "Christian Broadcasting Network" reported that Baptist preacher Franklin Graham will take part in a service at the White House on Maundy Thursday. He is grateful to Trump for this, Graham wrote on the "X" network. The head of the "Office of Faith" in the White House, preacher Paula White, explained on "X" that a "phenomenal week" was ahead.

On Easter Monday, the traditional "Egg Roll" will take place in the White House garden, where children will roll boiled eggs with spoons on the lawn in the presence of a human-sized Easter bunny. The festivities with games and music have been organised for more than 100 years. This year, companies are expected to sponsor the event for the first time, reported the New York Times. (epd)
