Pope Leo's brother: We have different political positions

According to Louis, Louis Prevost and his brother Robert, better known as Pope Leo XIV, have different political positions and differences of opinion. Louis Prevost described himself to the Spanish portal ABC as a conservative supporter of the Trump movement "Make America Great Again" (MAGA). For his brother, on the other hand, it is difficult as Pope to share MAGA's views on immigration policy. "We have different opinions on this point," said Prevost.

At the same time, he emphasised that his brother remained the same despite his pontificate. "I see the things he does as Pope and think: 'That's what my brother would have done'. He is himself," said Prevost. In addition, Leo XIV met people at eye level and expressed criticism respectfully. He is not quiet or shy: "If he has something to say, he will say it."

"Someone like you in the seminary?"

The Prevost family grew up strongly influenced by religion, said the Pope's brother. He and his siblings had attended Catholic schools. Leo's decision to become a priest had made his parents proud. His brothers occasionally teased him - "Someone like you in the seminary!" - but at the same time supported him: "You do your thing. We support you. You're not crazy, you want to do something good. Keep going."

Prevost also reported that the Pope has little time for private meetings during his pontificate. Recently, however, the brothers were able to spend several hours together in Rome. However, he himself holds back from making public statements so as not to put his brother, the Pope, in an unpleasant situation.

Despite their political differences, the brothers have a lot in common, said Prevost. For example, they both share a particular passion: "We have many interests in common, but we both have always liked cars."
