After Marian note: Vatican announces next letter

Vatikanstadt - The Vatican Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith has just published a document on the veneration of Our Lady. Now it is announcing the next document – this time on a somewhat more secular topic.

At the end of November, the Vatican intends to publish a document on the subject of monogamy. This was announced by Armando Matteo, Secretary of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, on Tuesday in Rome. The note is entitled "You and me. In Praise of Monogamy" and deals with the value of marriage. It arose from the need of the African bishops in particular to express themselves from a Catholic perspective due to the practice of polygamy on their continent.

A commission set up by Pope Francis (2013-2025) is also working on the topic of polygamy. This is linked to the study groups on various topics set up as part of the World Synod. According to a Vatican press release from June, the final reports of these groups are to be submitted by the end of the year.

It was only on Tuesday morning that the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith published the doctrinal note "Mater populi fidelis". In it, Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Faith, called for titles such as "Coredemptrix" or "Mediatrix of Grace" to be avoided in Marian devotion and theology. (cbr/KNA)
